Holy Motors – Giveaway (Competition Closed)
What is Holy Motors about? It’s a question asked just as much by those who have seen the film as those that haven’t.
And with good reason – Holy Motors is a perplexing movie, celebrating the surrealism of Luis Buñuel with a visual panache reserved for Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s films. But it’s a film that has been astonishing critics and audiences worldwide – with both the Sydney and Melbourne Film Festivals making it a very last minute addition based on its Palme d’Or near-win at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Directed by Leos Carax (Boy Meets Girl, Tokyo!), Holy Motors follows a man named Oscar (Denis Lavant) who travels around in the back of a limousine, changing costumes and jumping out to live various lives around Paris. We won’t tell you much more, except that it also stars Eva Mendes and a certain Australian singer.
Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian said in his review: “Leos Carax’s Holy Motors is weird and wonderful, rich and strange – barking mad, in fact. … [T]his is what we have all come to Cannes for: for something different, experimental, a tilting at windmills, a great big pole-vault over the barrier of normality by someone who feels that the possibilities of cinema have not been exhausted by conventional realist drama.”
Holy Motors opens around the country tomorrow – Thursday 23 August – and to celebrate we have 8 double passes to give away. To win simply email us the name of the Australian singer that appears in the film.
