Now in its 13th year, the Arab Film Festival Australia returns in 2014 with a selection of outstanding and provocative new films playing in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.
This year’s line-up includes a vibrant mix that reflects the current dynamic times in Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Palestine and Jordan. From freedom fights, to football and female artists – the topics and issues are ever changing, giving an insightful glimpse into these complex societies.
The festival will open with an emotionally fuelled screening of When I Saw You, a first ever look at the secret camps of the Freedom Fighters of the Palestinian Resistance in 1967. The commanding actor Saleh Bakri will be a special guest on the night.
The 2014 program then continues to deliver with politically charged narratives, intertwined with stories of women who dare to push the boundaries. There are stories of brides on the run, doomed grooms, family feuds and the experience of living between cultures.
