All eyes are on Italy in September as celebrities descend on the canals once again for the 2011 Venice International Film Festival. To celebrate, the World Movies channel is transporting you to the land of amore with eight days of beautiful Italian programming.

From 8pm every night, see actor profiles and the latest breaking news from the 2011 Venice red carpet; exclusive interviews, gossip and reviews as the action unfolds. Then, settle in at 8.30pm each night for special screenings of the latest and greatest Italian films.

BAARIA
Sunday 4 September 8.30pm
Oscar-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore’s film centres on the life of Peppino (Francesco Scianna), from his poor 1930s boyhood to political activism in the post-war period.

OUR LIFE
Monday 5 September 8.30pm
Leading man Elio Germano won Best Actor at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival for his role as construction worker Claudio in this telling portrait of contemporary Italian life. Italian heart-throb Raoul Bova is magnetic as Claudio’s introverted bachelor brother, and Luca Zingaretti rounds out a star-studded cast as Claudio’s drug-dealing neighbour.

While waiting for the brain surgery of his daughter Angela, victim of a motorcycle accident, the surgeon Timoteo (Sergio Castellitto) recalls his torrid affair with and passion for Italia (Penélope Cruz), a simple woman from slums in the periphery of the big city where he lives. The ghost of the beloved and sexual object of desire Italia chases him in his memories.

Something like an Italian version of When Harry Met Sally, this acclaimed debut by director Valerio Mieli examines the decade-long relationship between two friends who resist romance yet are constantly drawn together by the circumstances of their lives.

WHAT MORE DO I WANT

This four-time Italian Golden Globes nominee and Berlin Film Festival hit by director Silvio Soldini features acclaimed actress Alba Rohrwacher in a career-best role as 30-something accountant, Anna. Despite her boyfriend’s desire to start a family, Anna feels that the spark has gone out of their relationship. She finds the excitement she craves in a passionate affair with a colleague, Domenico (Pierfrancesco Favino).
