Cold War thrillers don’t get much better than this. This compelling French spy drama tells the true story of little-known KGB Colonel Sergi Grigoriev (Emir Kusturica). Growing increasingly disillusioned with the Soviet government during the darkest days of the Cold War, the veteran Russian spy turns double agent and leaks state secrets to the West via the ear of French businessman, Pierre Fromen (Guillaume Canet).
The inevitable espionage intrigue mounts as Grigoriev skates ever closer to being revealed by his government as a traitor, however it’s the human drama that really makes this film. Director Christian Carion draws parallels between the world-weary Russian communist solider and the young French capitalist as both men juggle precarious relationships in their personal lives.
