In 1939 Ferdinand Marian was a Jewish actor in Berlin, famous throughout the country and married to a beautiful young woman.
One day Ferdinand is offered the starring role in the new Nazi anti-Semitic film, which he immediately turns down. However he is soon under pressure from infamous Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, and eventually succumbs to his convincing charm.
The actor unwittingly plays into the Nazi’s plans, and his attempts to subvert the film by giving his Jewish character a human touch makes it the most successful propaganda film ever.
The film is based on a true story and was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival.
