Gaspar Noe’s directorial follow up to the controversial Irreversible premiered at Cannes 2009, and shows the seedy underside of Tokyo through the eyes of two young tourists.
Linda works as a stripper while Oscar spends his nights in drug-fed hallucinations where the bright lights of the Japanese city come alive. However when he is caught in the middle of a police sting operation he is shot and instantly killed, and soon finds himself floating above the streets watching over his friends.
With a bird’s eye view, he follows his sister, swoops into the windows of a love hotel and can even examine life on a molecular level. This psychedelic melodrama bravely raises questions of sexuality and the afterlife.
