This April, World Movies presents the latest and greatest crime and corruption films from across the world every Wednesday night. All inspired by true events, these criminal films from France, Mexico and Italy will prove that often the truth is stranger, and more terrifying, than fiction.

Wednesday 6 April 8.30pm (Australian Television Premiere)
The Connection (Belgium, 2014)
Pierre, a relentlessly dedicated magistrate, is reassigned to Marseille in 1975 where the port city is ruled not by law, but by the terrifying mafia boss, Gaetan Zampa. Soon Pierre realises that to make a difference he will need to change his methods. This tough, fascinating film tells the little known story of how a ruthless international drug syndicate came undone. Based on a true story.

Black Souls (Italy, France, 2014)
A gripping morality tale of violence begetting violence in rural Calabria, that takes us on a journey into the dark and sinister world of the real-life mafia (‘Ndrangheta) in Southern Italy. Based upon the actual events described in Gioacchino Black Souls vividly brings to life the inevitable tragic consequences when never-ending revenge and vendetta is passed down from generation to generation.

Mexico’s Most Wanted (Mexico, 2014)
Based on the unbelievable true story of career criminal Alfredo Rios Galeana, “EL Charro Misterioso” who was the most prolific bank robber in the history of Mexico. By night, Alfredo was a masked mariachi player who performed live shows and sold records to the masses. By day, Alfredo pulled off over 80 bank-­heists, escaped from prison three times, and earned the title of public enemy number one in Mexico. This fast-paced crime thriller follows the most notorious outlaw in Mexican history and the federal cop who brought him down for good.
