This 2007 portrait of iconic French singer Edith Piaf (Marion Cotillard) found success at both the BAFTA and Academy Awards, including a Best Actress Oscar for Cotillard. Raised in her grandmother’s brothel on the mean streets of Paris, Piaf was discovered in 1935 by nightclub owner Louis Leplee (Gerard Depardieu), who helped her overcome her extreme stage fright. The uncompromising Piaf went on to become the toast of New York’s glamorous concert halls and cement her legacy as an enduring icon of the 20th Century.
