Author and filmmaker Catherine Breillat has gained a reputation as one of the most controversial women in contemporary arts, often focusing on the erotic and emotional lives of young women, as told from the woman’s perspective.

This month World Movies celebrates International Women’s Day with two of Breillat’s captivating films, An Old Mistress and Romance.

An Old Mistress (France, 2007)- Thursday 8 March 9.30pm
A handsome young man vows to stay away from his long term mistress, in this intimate chamber piece full of betrayals, confidences and secrets. Nominated for a Palme d’Or at 2007 Cannes International Film Festival.

 

Romance (France, 1999) - Thursday 8 March 11.25pm
Initially refused classification in Australia, the notorious film about a women testing her sexual boundaries in her search for intimacy and fulfilment. An intelligent and disturbing film by Catherine Breillat.
